STEVEN YUHASZ

Steven is a director, writer, producer, and appeared twice on Broadway as a singer and actor, but did you know his first theatre experience was as a flag twirler in 4th grade? (There is a picture.) Or that he was in the NJ All State Choir in High School, studied wig making and ballet in college, and did his Masters work in set and costume design while preparing to be a director?  Not many people can honestly say that they have been able to pursue and follow their dreams, but it became clear to Steven at an early age he wanted a life, a career in the arts.

Viewing the Mona Lisa at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, standing in front of the Pieta at the New York World’s Fair, making trips to the New York Philharmonic  for “Leonard Bernstein’s Young People Concerts,” are some of the early influences that began to shape Steven’s creative imagination.  A school trip into New York could include the Metropolitan Opera, a Broadway Play, an avant garde production downtown, the symphony or the ballet.   Steven’s creative passion was ignited by teachers whose own zeal encouraged the curiosity to know more, to see the connection of all art, the influence in the world around us and what the arts provide by touching our lives.

Steven’s career in the theatre began as a singer and actor (oops…flag twirler), his passion for the theatre, directing, creating new works, re-inventing stage classics, and his business savvy and personal high standards as a producer emulates in all he does. John Kander said of him …”a truly remarkable fellow.” To create not held back by judgment, but to create theatre and a world that makes us think, laugh and at the same time entertains are what inspire him.

Steven has collaborated with industry legends mentoring him along the way and with new talent to whom he shares the joy and love of the theatre. His range of experience, knowledge, compassion and playful sense that makes him one of the most sought after theatre artists in the industry.
